South Africa, 2014–17, blackened ash, metal, LED light, height approx. 120 cm, length approx. 280 cm, depth approx. 135 cm. (DRAX)
A large version featuring eleven curved arms. No. 1 from the limited edition of 6 + 2 A. P.
The arms of the “Haywire” chandelier are rotatable in both directions, which allows for countless possibilities to control the light and change the lamp’s appearance.
The “Haywire D1” is a progression from the model of a similar chandelier with straight arms, adding more dynamism to the design.
Uncompromising attention to quality, detail, and originality is what sets Johannesburg-based designer David Krynauw’s work apart. It draws inspiration from the method behind the work and this is where the focus rests. A desire for a fresh approach leads to experimentation with different shapes and forms to produce unconventional and inspiring pieces, the designer’s overarching aim being a consistent drive toward expanding capabilities and pushing the boundaries of the chosen medium.
David Krynauw’s iconic “Haywire Chandelier” was awarded the Object that Moves Award by the Southern Guild Design Foundation in 2014. Krynauw is the recipient of 100% Design South Africa’s Designer of the Year Award 2015.
