Carl Moser jun.
(Bolzano 1873-1939)
“Brücke in Venedig” [A Bridge in Venice], 1907, colour woodcut on thin Japan paper, signed and dated CMoser Venezia 07 (the monogram stamp supplemented in pencil as CMoser), titled and inscribed Orig.-Holzschnitt [original woodcut], no. 8 from the edition of 21 numbered impressions, print and sheet size 29.4 x 44.5 cm, Kirschl between HS 47 and HS 48, framed, (RAC)
The present sheet represents a transition between the first (HS 47) and second version (HS 48) of this motif. Compared to the first version, the figure on the bridge has already been replaced, and the two other female figures on the right on the stairs are missing. However, the gap in the banister on the upper landing caused by the absence of one female figure has not yet been filled. Nor is the brick masonry of the bridge visible in the second version present here yet. The contour plate is printed only weakly and partly sketch-like. A further copy of this transitional version with the no. 6 of 21 was auctioned at Dorotheum on 9 November 1994 under catalogue no. 327.
