Superb portrait of the young empress from the time of her wedding. This portrait type of the empress in a lace dress was varied and repeated several times by the well-known Viennese portrait painter Franz Schrotzberg. Franz Schrotzberg was one of the best and most sought-after portrait painters of both the imperial family and higher nobility.

Accompanied by a copy of the certificate issued by Dr Bruno Grimschitz:"... this portrait of the young Empress Elisabeth of Austria is in my opinion an original by the Viennese painter Franz Schrotzberg (1811-1889). Vienna, 1 May 1960. Dr. Bruno Grimschitz". Counterpart to the following lot.
