Archduke Ferdinand Maximilian became enthusiastic about seafaring at a young age and undertook numerous long-distance journeys. Already at the age of 22 he was appointed commander of the Imperial & Royal Navy, devoting himself with great zeal to its reorganisation in the following years. He exercised this function from 1854 until 1861. An extremely interesting personal souvenir of the naval enthusiast Archduke and later Emperor of Mexico.
