the Baltics/Russia, originally. c. 1800/10, mahogany veneered hardwood and softwood frame on square-cut legs of conical form (shortened at a later date), 2 drawers with central avant-corps and brass fillet decoration in panels, slanted lesenes with matching brass fillet decoration, also on the sides, sheet brass inlays in the lower frieze, the top supplemented at a later date, c. 82 x 124 x 63 cm, brass fittings, signs of age and use. Provenance:
formerly Victor of Baggovout, Russian diplomat (late 19th century), whose ancestor Karl Gustav of Baggovout (1761-1812) distinguished himself as a Russian general in the Napoleonic Wars (Russian campaign in 1812) and the large family estates in Estonia were lost after the October Revolution of 1917.
