porcelain, 3 pieces: 1 soup plate diameter 25 cm, 2 dessert plates diameter 22.5 cm, lips with gold arched border on black ground, white, gold red and blue stripes, the mid-section with polychrome painted coat of arms, inside rim with wide and narrow gilt edging

Gustav Ritter von Epstein, 1827-1879, banker, director of the "Privilegierte Österreichische Nationalbank" and "k. k. privilegierte Österreichische Bank" in Trieste. In 1868 he commissioned the architect Theophil von Hansen to build a palace as a bank and residential building on the Ringstrasse (Dr. Karl Renner-Ring). His are the motto SIS QUI VIDERIS (Be Who You Seem to Be) and crown of nobility.
