Utagawa Hiroshige (1797-1858)
Sanuki, Zôzusan enbô (The Province of Sanuki), from the series: "(Dai Nihon) Rokuj meisho zue” (Sixty-Odd Famous Provinces of Japan), nishiki-e, signed Hiroshige hitsu, publisher: Koshimuraya Heisuke (Koshihei), block engraver: Hori Sôji, dated 1855 (Ansei 2, month 9), aratame censor seal. The present sheet is a late print according to Marije Jansen, Hiroshige’s journey in the 60-odd provinces, Amsterdam 2004, p. 140: the orange horizon is yellow here, the faces are pink. With full margins, wood grain visible, traces of glue along the upper margin on the reverse, minimally stained, otherwise very good impression and colours, 36.3 x 24.1 cm, mounted, (CT)
