Lot No. 74

Lombard School, ca. 1600

Lombard School, ca. 1600 - Master Drawings, Prints before 1900, Watercolours, Miniatures

Study for the Resurrection of Christ, red chalk on laid paper, laid down on later laid paper, 30,5 x 19 cm, browned, stained, tears and losses, unmounted, unframed, (Sch)

For stylistic reasons the present drawing can be attributed to a Lombard artist of the early 17th century in the surrounding of Giulio Cesare Procaccini (1574-1625). The composition seems to be arranged of elements with several motifs of various artistic models. The dense arrangement of the figures and the “tower-like” structure of the composition recall also works by Pellegrino Tibaldi (1527-1596).
