According to the records, this design by Alain Gruber is based on a model in the Museu de Artes Decorativas in Porto (Portugal). Alain Gruber had over 500 of these folding chairs made in a modified version by Les Ateliers de la Chapelle (F) for Waddesdon Manor (castle of the English line of the Rothschild family, now National Trust). He also commissioned the present 4 pieces for himself.
