"Das Graphische Werk", c. 1942-1949, 33 drypoint etchings on thin Japan paper, posthumous prints besides the editions of 1954, 1955 and 1965, occasional slight spotting, (33), (RAC)

This series includes 33 of Wols’ 52 drypoint etchings. They were mostly produced as book prints, and Wols only printed a few copies besides the book editions. Grety Wols had 35 plates reprinted for the first time in 1954 as an overview of Wols’ graphic oeuvre. Further editions followed in 1955 and 1965 in slightly different sets. The total number of copies printed on vellum was 65. The sheets are stamped on the reverse with 'Wols Epreuve posthume' or 'Wols Tirage posthume'. In addition, an unspecified number of further examples were printed on thin Japan paper, without stamps on the reverse and in slightly different arrangements. The present collection is composed of these prints on thin Japan paper without stamps on the reverse. Containing the following works: Busch/Grohmann 1, 3, 4, 6-22, 24-26, 28-35, 50 and 51. Beautiful, fine-drawing prints with plate tone.
