A rare early Constanze settee/sofa, designed by Johannes Spalt
c. 1957, for Franz Wittmann Möbelwerkstätten, Etsdorf/Kamp, Austria, chromium plated rectangular-section steel tube and angle steel, solid coniferous wood (upholstery frame), bolts, spring-supported upholstery, natural latex foam, professionally renewed black leather covering, leather-covered buttons, piping, folding mechanism (for the backrest), height approx. 72 cm, length approx. 195 cm, depth approx. 74 and 110 cm (as a sofa), height of seat approx. 35 cm. The settee can be turned into a daybed. This sofa is a precursor of Spalt’s Constanze from 1961, differing from it in details and in the type of folding mechanism.
