In 1985, Patek Philippe launched the reference 3940, a wristwatch with a perpetual calendar to replace the 3450 and 3448 models. Due to its flat design and elegant look, it quickly became the manufacturer’s flagship for watches with this complication. The success of this model also explains the long production period of almost 21 years. The production of the 3940 model ended in 2006, but the demand remained unchanged and still continues at auctions today.
