The Italian opera and film director Gianfranco De Bosio pursued an emphatically historical realism in his production. The rococo spirit was also exhibited in the splendid, sometimes very elaborate costumes of the former Kokoschka assistant Santuzza Calì, which were made in the usual exquisite quality by the famous Roman tailoring company Farani.
The chorus costume from the last scene of the opera is color-finished. The lion costume consists of headwear, an eye mask, a jacket, a vest, breeches, a cordon and a jabot (flounce). It is in good condition, but has signs of wear. The headwear (mask) is made of paper maché.
