Hiroshige (1797-1858)
Zojo-ji to, Akabane (The pagoda Zojo-ji and Akabande), sheet 53 from the "Meisho Edo hyakkei" series (Hundred Views of Edo), nishiki-e, signed Hiroshige ga, publisher Uoya Eikichi, dated 1857 (Ansei 4, month 1), aratame censor seal snake 1 (the last three indications are missing from this sheet because it has been trimmed along the border line on three sides), the wood grain is visible in the sky at the upper margin, it is a later print because the red tones are slightly faded, beautiful bokashi in the dark blue pagoda roofs (cf. indications and sheet with MFA, Boston, acc. no. 11.35832), loss above the tower on the left and at the lower left corner, sheet slightly thin and partly rubbed, album holes to the right side outside the image area, yellowed, 33.8 x 23.1 cm,(CT)
