Onagigawa Gohonmatsu (Five Pine Trees at the Onagi Canal) from the "Meisho Edo hyakkei" series, nishiki-e, signed: Hiroshige hitsu, publisher Uoya Eikichi, dated 1856 (Ansei 3, month 7), censorship seal aratame, kite 7. Compare sheet and details with sheet acc. no. 11.36876.64 from the MFA, Boston: the present sheet with a yellow title cartouche is a slightly later version of the Boston sheet, the wood grain is still visible in the dark blue bokashi at the top centre margin. In both sheets the blank areas along the signature cartouche are almost identical. In the present sheet the reds and yellows are slightly paler than in the Boston sheet, suggesting a later impression. Below in the grey of the bank a restored wormhole, slightly damaged blue beside near the penultimate post; a loss in the upper section to the bokashi of the sky, and to the lower right corner, full margins, at the back in the upper corners traces of glue, 35.7 x 24.3 cm, mounted, framed,(CT)
