clear glass, body of curved form, with gold ground to interior and to exterior, reserve with opaque polychrome painted view inscribed “L´eglise de St. Etienne à Vienne” on white band underneath, surrounded by gold-painted rosettes and sprigs of leaves on silver-yellow painted ground, the gold side of the foot (“ranft”) with cut repeated vertical facets, base with 16-ray star cut base on silver-yellow ground, height 11 cm, gilding to interior and to exterior scuffed, rim with 2 minor chippings and the side of the foot (“ranft”) with very slight chippings, the inside of the base with short scratch mark

Provenance:
Albert Pollak Collection (1878-1943), Vienna; May 1938 confiscation of his collection by the GESTAPO Vienna; from March 1940 distribution of numerous objects to various museums by the Central Office for the Protection of Monuments, to the Universalmuseum Joanneum, Museum of History, Cultural History Collection in Graz.
The Kothgasser-Ranftbecher was identified as a so-called "extorted dedication" in the course of provenance research at the Universalmuseum Joanneum, deleted from the inventory of the Cultural History Collection and is hereby restituted to the heirs after the collector.
