porcelain, 2 elements, cover and body with screwed foot and base, the white body with gold sculptural fruit finial and lateral mascarons as handles, gold borders decorated in relief with leaf and flower tendrils, chain border, acanthus leaves and narrow and wide gilt edges, the facing side with polychrome painted park landscape with triumphal arches and palatial architecture, in the foreground a courtly scene with a young lady in baroque dress holding an open songbook in her left hand, a cavalier greeting her, her dog sniffing at him, next to the lady a seated girl, in the background a flute player watching the scene, the reverse side with polychrome painted bouquet of flowers, signed Schlesinger at lower right, total height 87 cm

Klaus-Peter-Arnold, Dresdner Porzellan Geschichte einer Manufaktur, p. 92, JULIUS FRITZ SCHLESINGER, landscape, figure and portrait painter as well as Watteau painter, was an outstanding artist. Particularly noteworthy are two monumental magnificent vases, probably executed for a World’s Fair, more than 80 cm high, bearing his signature. They reproduce copies of paintings by Boucher and Pater all around the body of the vase.
