wood, Burkina Fasso. 76 cm high. These phallic ancestor sculptures, known as 'kpin sebla', are placed in shrines and were only allowed to be seen by 'initiates'. These figures received sacrificial offerings of millet and blood of sacrificed animals. (VJ)
