A large Khosi 'charm' figure,
Yaka R. d. Congo. Wood, pigments. 57 cm high. They are 'magically charged' by the ritual specialist called 'nganga' who functions as a priest, healer, soothsayer and commissions the figure. In the Khosi, the charges are placed in small cavities on their bodies and called upon to protect the village community. (VJ)
