8 Mildner beakers with the coat of arms of the family Sternbach zum Stock und Luttach, dated 1789, Gutenbrunn

clear glass, the body of slightly conical form with engraved pinhead-border and arched cut, the facing side with insert medallions with the gold coat of arms of the family Sternbach zum Stock und Luttach, surrounded by gold cord and delicate gold turned band, on transparent red varnish ground, in gold glass technique (‘Zwischengoldglas’). Inside medallions with various etched dedications, dated 1789 and artist’s name “von Mildner” on silver foil, surrounded by laurel branches ending in rosettes.
The base of the body with sphere and notch shaped cut décor, base with 24 cut petals and sphere cut base.
State of preservation: a few beakers minimally chipped, 4th beaker with 2 cracks to the silver foil on the inside whose ends are slightly visible on the facing side, glued on the inside. 6th beaker with 2 short tension cracks to the silver foil on the inside, not visible on the facing side.
Height 10.5 - 10.7 cm, diameter opening 7.5 cm;

The gold glass medallion beakers (‘Zwischengoldglas’) by Johann Joseph Mildner are among the most precious created in the art of glass, not only by virtue of their sophisticated craftsmanship, but also, and especially, in their artistic quality. The glasses were manufactured in Gutenbrunn in the district of Zwettl, Austria.
J.J. Mildner born in Kaltenberg on the Harrach estate Starkenbach/Jilemnice in 1765, made the earliest dated glass from 20.7.1787 onwaeds, a continuous activity in Gutenbrunn is documented until his death on 11.2.1808.
