porcelain, the body with gilt edging, lemon-yellow lip with 18 bright gold painted stars and mid-section with matte gold rosettes, on wide gilt edging matte gold painted lace border, the well with a polychrome painted depiction of the month of “May”, in the centre a naked amorous couple with luminous star as head jewel, the goddess holding a floral cornucopia in her right hand, the young god wrapped in a red fluttering veil touching with his left the hip of the goddess, behind him a floating cupid with burning torch in his left, all connected with a green and purple small fluttering veil, standing on a cloud base, behind them a part of the globe against a dark background, very rare depiction and commissioned work, height 3.2 cm, dm. 14.3 cm, the lip with some colour loss
underglaze blue Austrian shield, dated 1811, turner no. 37 Wenzel Winklau 1789–1814, gilder no. 121 Thomas Limmer 1792–1821 (Ru)
“May” (after the ancient Italian god MAIUS) was probably worshipped as the protector of growth.
