Gisela of Bavaria (1856 - 1932), daughter of Emperor Francis Joseph I and Empress Elisabeth, married Prince Leopold of Bavaria. Gerda Casee was highly esteemed as a painter in South German aristocratic circles. Some of her works are owned by the House of Thurn and Taxis. The present painting was displayed at the International Art Exhibition in Berlin in 1905.
