A unique table mod. Canvas Table, designed and manufactured by Philipp Aduatz
in 2014, sculptural construction with table top made of resin, fibreglass, oil paint, clear polyurethane coating, four flaring steel legs in rubber sabots. Dimensions: height c. 43 cm, width c. 120 cm, depth c. 90 cm. (MHA)
A unique piece from a series of five tables, each with a different design and colour.
The concept of ‘canvas table’ by Austrian designer Philipp Aduatz combines experimental furniture with a traditional oil painting technique - the underlying idea being to use the surface of a unique table as a canvas for a work of art. The shape of the table is obtained by casting resin on a plate, and its outline takes a specific form depending on the viscosity of the resin. Subsequently, the table is painted with oil paint - a motif echoing the gentle fading of a colour gradient, as seen in a clear sky. After the paint dries, the surface is covered with a special clear varnish that both protects the paint and makes the table suitable for everyday use. The steel legs under the table are connected to the top with a resin construction reinforced with fibreglass.
