Hanns Pellar
Austrian painter and illustrator. Since 1901 he was a pupil of Joseph Eugen Hörwarter at the Grafischen Lehr- und Versuchsanstalt (Graphic Teaching and Reseach Institute). In 1905 he was accepted at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, where he was a pupil of Heinrich Lefler. In 1906 he went to Munich, where he studied in the painting school of Franz von Stuck until 1908. His illustrations in newspapers and magazines such as „Lustige Blätter“, „Simplizissimus“, „Lieber Augustin“ and in the fairy tale book „Der kleine König“ brought him the attention of the Grand Duke of Hessen who made him a member of the artists’ colony in Darmstadt. There, Pellar specialized in portrait painting. He made portraits of members of the Grand Ducal family and of ladies of the aristocracy and the higher society.
