A Nuremberg insert weight set of 16 Viennese pounds
18th century, master's mark “three crowns” (Lockner 85, p. 274: probably Karl Gottlieb Lorenz, 1795-96), brass, three original inserts, exterior stamped with master's mark and "16", inside stamped "8", "H", Austrian double eagle and dated (1)870 (last calibration), the 4 pound piece inside stamped "S S" (Steyr Stadt) and with double eagle with "S" on the breast, the inserts also dated 1856. Outer shell elaborately decorated, hinged handle with mermaids over mythical creatures. Height with handle in vertical position c. 20 cm.
