"Le Camp les Milles", etching in colours on Arches wove paper, after the eponymous gouache from 1940, signed Wols in the plate, verso typeset edition note, no. 64 from the edition of 100 numbered impressions on this paper, in addition only 25 copies were printed on Japon Imperial, plate size 33.7 x 27.7 cm, sheet size 56.7 x 37.8 cm, 1968 published by Michel Couturier/Paris, (RAC)
Print authorised by the widow of the artist, Grety Wols, with the typewritten confirmation 'Avec l'accord de Madame Grety Wols' on the reverse. The title refers to the former factory 'Les Milles' near Aix-en-Provence, which was used from 1939 to 1940 as an internment camp for Germans living in France, especially artists and intellectuals. From 1941, it became a transit camp for Jews before their deportation to Auschwitz. Wols was interned in this camp until October 1940, along with Max Ernst, Hans Bellmer, and Lion Feuchtwanger, among others.
