(Malaga 1881-1973 Mougins) “Minotaure, une Coupe à la Main, et Jeune Femme”, 1933, etching from ‘La Suite Vollard’, signed by hand Picasso, watermark Picasso in the paper, printed and published by Vollard in 1939, from an edition of 250 prints, plate size 19.4 x 26.8 cm, sheet size 34 x 44.5 cm, mounted, framed, Bloch 190, (EW)
"The Vollard Suite takes its name from Ambroise Vollard, the avant-garde picture dealer and print publisher, who gave Picasso his first exhibition in Paris in 1901. Picasso produced the 100 plates that form the suite between 1930 and 1937, with the majority in 1933 when the project began to take shape as a 'commission' in exchange for some pictures from Vollard. (...) The prints were made when Picasso was involved in a passionate affair with his muse and model, Marie-Thérèse Walter, whose classical features are a recurrent presence in the series."
