![Giovanni Migliara - 19th Century Paintings Giovanni Migliara - 19th Century Paintings](/fileadmin/lot-images/38N221108/normal/giovanni-migliara-8264414.jpg)
(Alessandria 1785–1837 Milan)
Venetian Capricci with Church and Figures, and with Villa and Arch, one indistinctly signed Giovanni Migliara, oil on card on canvas,
each 36 x 46 cm, framed (2)
Provenance:
Private Collection, Italy.
The paintings date from around 1812 to 1820, when Migliara exhibited Venetian-style imaginary views at the Brera Exhibition of Fine Arts in Milan, alongside his first Milanese views. At this time the artist - who had already successfully practiced copying Canaletto’s Venetian views - took as his model Canaletto’s famous capricci, in which fantasy elements, Venetian and Roman motifs, ancient and modern architecture, are freely juxtaposed in a complex system of references.
