An Empire Seating Group - Furniture; works of art; glass and porcelain

Danube Monarchy, c. 1810/20, consisting of 1 settee and 4 chairs;
pear veneer, ebonised hardwood and softwood frames in the form of sabre and carved trestle legs, gilt, chair backs in shovel shape on gold painted eagles, elaborate marquetry décor with Indian ink painting and brass intarsia, reupholstered, settee (width c. 160 cm) with slightly curved frieze and rest, armrests in the form of sphinxes in so-called ‘verde antico’ decoration, height of backrest of settee c. 104 cm, height of backrest of chairs c. 89 cm, height of seat of settee c. 46/47 cm, height of seat of chairs c. 43/44 cm, in restored condition, 1 small veneer part missing at the corner of one chair back, covers with slight staining in places. Excellent workmanship. An identical chair model is preserved in the Imperial Furniture Collection ("Kaiser Franz-Saal") in Vienna.
