“Judith”, heroine of the Old Testament book of the same name, probably written in the time of the Maccabees. The Book of Judith has the form of a historical legend and tells the story of the salvation of the Jews in battle against the army of the Assyrian Nebuchadnezzar, whose general Holofernes is killed by Judith through a ruse.
