porcelain, painted in exquisite impasto Limoges painting with Greek mythological scenes from Homer's "Iliad", decorated with all-round farewell scene with Hector and his wife Andromache and others, porcelain, cobalt blue body, cover with white pointed finial and wide gold edges, edge of lid with frieze featuring white painted acanthus leaf tendrils, palmettes and white pearls, body with gold rim and wide gold foot rim, under the scenes wide frieze with white painted female and male mascarons in the Asian style, acanthus leaf tendrils, leaf and strapwork, cloth festoons and bouquets of flowers, height 68 cm, without cover height 47.5 cm, underglaze blue crossed swords mark with dot, vase model by Johann Joachim Kändler c. 1740 (Ru)

Hector, a Greek mythological figure, is the eldest son of King Priam of Troy. In the Trojan War, Hector is the leader of the Trojans and their bravest hero. The "Iliad", attributed to Homer, is the oldest preserved great epic of European literature. It does not cover the entire Trojan War, but only the decisive 51 days of the ten-year siege.
