The Austrian industrialist, Johann Weitzer (1832-1902) founded the Johann Weitzer Maschinen-Waggonbau und Eisengießerei Aktiengesellschaft in 1891. From 1903 onwards, the Arad concern made railway history: a petrol/electric-driven vehicle was the first European petrol-driven car to go into production.
