As a result of technological progress in the 1950s, radio and television sets became increasingly popular. The associated magnetic fields had a negative impact on the functioning of mechanical wristwatches. In order to eliminate this problem, IWC developed the Ingenieur. Its soft iron cage protects it from interfering magnetic fields. The SI unit ‘A/m’ stands for ‘amperes per meter’ and denotes the magnetic field strength.
