A Brandy Bottle with Mythological Scene (Perseus Rescuing Andromeda), - A Styrian Collection I

early 19th century, clear glass, height 31 cm, metal screw top with inset coin as a stopper- Dresden thaler Johann Georg I 1614-, four-sided cut depictions: a) Perseus comes flying towards Pegasus and fights the sea monster sent by Poseidon to punish Andromeda, b) neo-classically decorated coat of arms with crown and monogram “H”, c) the naked Andromeda, daughter of the king of Ethiopia, is chained in a sea grotto as punishment for her own hubris and is abandoned to the monster, d) neo-classically decorated coat of arms with ducal hat and monogram "C"; the neck with neo-classical ornamental stripe with mascarons and incised eight-rayed stars, the stopper slightly oxidised, (MC)
