Ilse Spielvogel, Ludwig Heinrich Jungnickel, Klagenfurt 2000, ill. p. 181, "Segelschiff im Sturm", c. 1945 Between 1939 and 1953, LH Jungnickel lived mainly in Abbazia/Opatija in self-chosen emigration. In these years, the sea became his favourite motif. He humorously records the remarks of the locals in his diary: “The weather is so bad that you wouldn’t want to chase a dog down the alley. And Professor Jungnickel goes down to the sea and paints the storm...”, quoted in: Spielvogel, p. 173
