A Fine Empire Étagère, - Furniture, Works of Art, Glass & Porcelain

Vienna, c. 1800/10, mahogany veneered hardwood and softwood frame on thin legs terminating in slightly curved bronze lion paws, the lyre-shaped sides with ebonised pearwood decor, 2 shelves with slanted corners and brass rail, c. 98 x 70 x 47 cm, later supplemented handles, fissures to the shelves, signs of age and use. This piece of furniture was displayed as a ‘servante’ (tea table) in the showrooms of the Vienna Hofburg (Imperial Apartments) on the occasion of the exhibition “150 Jahre Wiener Kongress” (1 June - 15 October 1965).
