Gervais-Maximilien Eugene DURAND, (1839-1920) crafted in the late 19th century after a model by cabinet-maker Bernard van Risenburgh, curved extensible oak frame with hinged top, rosewood veneer, marquetry with various precious woods, partly in cross-grained technique in panels, floral and lattice patterns, polished finish, finely chased gilt bronze fittings and top edging, the inside with fabric, the underside of the frame stamped, 75 x 82 x 42 cm, in beautiful professionally restored condition. Denise Ledoux-Lebard, "Le Mobilier Francais du XIX siecle" (2000) pp. 181-185 Gervais-Masimilien-Eugene DURAND (1839-1920) belonged to the most prominent Parisian cabinet-maker of the last quarter of the 19th century. In 1889 he took part in the World’s Fair in Paris and was described by experts of the time as a worthy successor to the famous masters Henri Dasson and Alfred Beurdeley.
