A Nuremberg Insert Weight Set of 16 Viennese Pounds - Furniture, Works of Art, Glass & Porcelain

first quarter of the 18th century, master’s mark (scales) surmounted by M H (Lockner 183, p. 293), stamped with 16, W (for Wien=VIENNA) and the Austrian double eagle, dated 1725 (twice) and 1782, bronze, four inserts for 4 pounds, 2 pounds, 1 pound (dated 1711) and 1 pound. Outer shell elaborately decorated, hinged handle with mermaids, seahorses and see monsters. Height with handles in vertical position c. 21 cm.

Provenance:
Collection of Albert Pollak (1878 - 1943), Vienna;
confiscation of his collection by the Gestapo in 1938;
seizure and safekeeping of the collection in the depot of the Central Office for the Protection of Monuments in 1939;
confiscation of the entire property by the Gestapo in 1940;
“Führer’s donation” to the Salzburg Museum (inv. no. 683-40);
restitution decision by the Board of Trustees of the Salzburg Museum on 5.11.2019;
restitution to the heirs of Albert Pollak on 20.10.2022.
