This figural series depicts the four great empires and monarchies of antiquity: Assyria, Persia, Greece and Rome. Here, Alexander the Great is representative of the Hellenic empire he conquered, and this group of figures was first mentioned in 1753 as a table decoration in the inventory of Count of Brühl.
