Die Faraglioni-Felsen von Capri / Faraglioni Rocks of Capri, signed L. H. JUNGNICKEL, estate stamp on the reverse, oil on canvas, 50.5 x 65.5 cm, framed
Provenance:
Estate of the artist
since then Private Collection, Styria / Steiermark
Rome, Naples and the island of Capri formed a fixed itinerary that Ludwig Heinrich Jungnickel undertook in 1925 and 1929. A watercolor of this motif of the famous Faraglione rocks in Capri is already known (cf. Spielvogel, fig. p. 171), possibly the model for this oil painting, which was still in the artist's estate. In almost pastel-like, changing shades of blue, the artist captures the calm of the sea, the gentle breaking of the waves, and depicts the limestone rocks gently illuminated by the sun in changing shades of color. A wonderfully lively impression that captures the moment.
