platinum 950, white gold 750, two old-cut brilliants total weight c. 2 ct, marquise-cut diamonds total weight c. 3.80 ct, smaller old-cut brilliants and diamonds with baguette, square and octagonal cut total weight c. 7.90 ct, French hallmark as of 1847, maker's mark Atelier Groene et Darde 1928–1955, workmanship c. 1940, 52.1 g, detachable pendant parts, case, stones slightly chipped in places
Suzanne Belperron is regarded as one of the most famous jewellery designers of the 20th century. Born on 26 September 1900, after graduating from the École des Beaux Arts de Besancon, she began her designer career with Rene Boivin in Paris in 1919. In 1932, she switched to Bernard Herz, in whose house she was active in a number of roles with her creative and unique designs until 1975. Her international and illustrious clientèle included not only the Duchess of Windsor, but also artists such as Josephine Baker, Charles Boyer and Jean Cocteau. The jewellery atelier Groene et Darde exclusively created Suzanne Belperron’s designs with supreme technical skills (AF).
