Gino de Dominicis *

Gino de Dominicis * - Contemporary Art II

(Ancona 1947–1998 Rome)
De Dominicis, 1990s, signed, charcoal and graphite on wood, 40 x 60 cm (without frame) 46.2 x 66.2 cm (with frame)

Provenance:
European Private Collection

Literature:
I. Tomassoni, Gino De Dominicis. Catalogo ragionato, Skira ed. 2011,
p. 517, no. 614 with ill.

“A signature as a work of art. De Dominicis never attached any particular importance to writing. The signature, usually on the back and sometimes in the bottom left corner, marked the completion of the work. In this case the signature was elevated to the status of a work in its own right and placed as such on the front. While we do not know to what extent De Dominicis sensed his imminent end before September 1998, the glorifying of his signature unquestionably reasserted his identity and consecrated his mission”.
