beechwood, drawer, turned three-legged foot, height 75.5 cm, top 58 x 41 cm, the underside with label "Eigenthum I. K. K. M. Kaiserin Elisabeth", further owner label: "I. K. H. Herzogin von Vendome Mentelberg bei Innsbruck", further label: "Ihre königliche Hoheit Prinzessin Clara", brand mark: "Privatfond I. K. K. Majestät", around 1880, (Lu)
Mentelberg Castle was acquired by Ferdinand d’Orleans, duc d’Alencon, in 1890. He had been married to the younger sister of Empress Elisabeth, Duchess Sophie Charlotte, since 1868. The side table was probably inherited by Empress Elisabeth and passed on to her sister, before coming into the possession of Princess Clara of Bavaria.
