A writing cabinet with top element and Japanese-style porcelain pictures, Vienna, c. 1910/20
walnut wood and macassar veneer, the inside with veneered birchwood; the upper section with hinged two-door cabinet with two different polychromed porcelain pictures: Japanese-style depictions of birds on branches, with mountains in the background; all-round black moulded double strip and notched decoration; the inside with drawers and compartments; the lower part with extensible writing surface with round knobs; underneath two drawers with domed handles; narrow secret compartments on the side and in the middle; square openwork motifs in a stepped pattern on all four sides at the corners; four angular legs with sculpturally carved hexagonal band; the four legs are connected below with geometrically openwork motifs; with key, the latter marked H. Irmler Wien; signs of age and use; professionally restored; height 125.5 cm, width 97.3 cm, depth 45.0 cm. (MP)
