Prof. Emmerich Simoncsics was born in Linz in 1933. Initially, he studied architecture at the University of Technology in Budapest. He received his diploma from the University of Technology in Vienna in 1959. From 1964 he also studied traditional architecture of Japan and contemporary buildings under Prof. Kenzo Tange. He completed his doctorate in 1972. ‚On the occasion of Prof. Karl Schwanzer’s visit to Japan, he was offered an assistant position at the University of Technology in Vienna. From 1967 onwards, he worked at the Institute of Building Science. Following the civil engineer examination and upon receiving his doctorate in 1972, he taught a course in „Applied Aesthetics“ from 1974 onwards, and started work on his post-doctoral thesis. After Prof. Schwanzer’s death, he took over his lectures and examination duties for building science for two and a half years. In 1976, in collaboration with architect Maki, he realised the Austrian Embassy building in Tokyo, whose representative rooms he furnished in the style of Art Nouveau.
