"Multiple Earthrise": an extraordinary UV photograph of the Earth rising over the Moon, 26 July - 7 August 1971

Vintage gelatin silver print on fiber-based paper, printed 1971, numbered "NASA AS15-99-13443" (NASA MSC) in black in top margin, 25,4 x 20,3 cm, 3 corners with light crease

This exceptional and exceptionally rare picture of a “Multiple Earth” rising over the lunar surface was taken by Alfred Worden with a special UV transmitting 105-mm lens and a special filter mounted on the Hasselblad camera along with magazine N containing the UV sensitive film from the Command Module Endeavour during its 24th revolution of the Moon from an altitude of about 120 km.

“Now I know why I’m here. Not for a closer look at the moon, but to look back at our home, the Earth” (Alfred Worden; Kelley, plate 52).
