The plate is part of a service commissioned on the occasion of the wedding of Johann Anton I Prince of Eggenberg and Anna Maria Margravine of Brandenburg-Bayreuth on 19 October 1639. An alliance coat of arms of this form can also be found on the facade of Krumlov Castle. Other parts of the service are preserved in the Joanneum in Graz.
