Gerus, Iran, c. 427 x 300 cm,
Late 19th century. The stylised floral design, typical of Gerus carpets from this period, stands out from the light-coloured ground. This archaic specimen was manufactured in a small rural factory in the Kurdish West Persian region of Gerus. The patterns were already deeply rooted in the region at that time through stories, drawings and vagirehs. Well preserved with several traces of use. (VP)
