Early 20th century. A salon carpet with the detailed pattern of courtly Safavid works from central Persia. A world-famous model from the first half of the 16th century is preserved in the Museum of Applied Arts in Vienna. The carpet depicts a mounted hunt with prey animals around a central medallion with dragon and phoenix. The border features winged spirits (“peris”). With partly trimmed pile, several traces of usage and damaged areas, in original condition. (VP)
