Each of Carla Accardi’s works is characterised by a minimalist colour palette, with large pseudo-calligraphic lines evoking the feeling of constant movement. While Accardi was renowned from the mid-1960s for her extraordinary sicofoil works – enamel on a transparent plastic material wrapped around stretcher bars – she returned to classical painting on canvas in the 1980s. The present work also fits squarely into her oeuvre. The chromatic juxtaposition and the seemingly random composition of the geometric-looking forms and symbols are an important part of her approach.
